Installation of Residential CSST Bonding
CSST, which stands for Corrugated Stainless Steel Tubing. CSST is a relatively new, flexible material that is approved for the distribution of natural gas inside of homes. A very important part of CSST is that it needs to be bonded. When CSST is installed without being properly bonded to manufacturer standards, there is an increased risk for damage to the material, & when CSST is damaged, it can leak gas and cause an explosion and/or a fire.
How to know if your home’s CSST is bonded
Your home was built in the 1990’s or later
Every post-1990 home won’t necessarily have it for certain, but for the most part, CSST bonding started in the 90s.
Look for flexible gas tubing, as opposed to rigid, black, steel pipe. Many times if the CSST is bonded, the tubing is yellow.
